Ireland Reaching Out - www.irelandxo.com

My Great Grandfather Robert Walker indicated in the England Census of 1911 that he was from County Down, Ireland.  My father always said that they were originally from Greyabbey.

I have found Robert Walker and his wife, Margaret. in the England Census of 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911, living in Cleator Moor, Cumberland England where they raised 4 children (Ellen, Margaret, Robert and Mary J.).  It would appear he was born in 1832.

I would appreciate knowing whether we still have relatives in Grebyabbey.

    Hi,

Thank you for your message and for sharing this photograph!

Have you tried checking the Irish Census records of 1901 and 1911 to see if there were any Walker?s still in the area at the time? you can search these here:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

It may be an idea to also post this message in a more local forum such as a newsletter or a newspaper in the hope that any relatives will see it and reach out to you.

Alternatively you could contact the Ulster Historical Foundation to see if they can be of any assistance. Here are their contact details:

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
