  • Dear Cecil

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We are prevented from providing information about those who are potentially still living without their express consent - did you mean 1955 or 1855?

  • Hi Cecil

Can you give us some estimated years of birth/marriage for this family - Brown is quite a common name in Co. Down for a certain period.

    Thanks

  • Cecil,

PRONI’s will site gives this probate abstract, which tells you that Dorothea’s husband was still alive in 1955:

Brown Dorothea Isabella of saint Elmos Marino Holywood county Down died 18 April 1955 at Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast Administration Belfast 25 May to William Henry Brown district manager the husband. Effects £6 5s. 10d.

Dorothea died intestate but the probate file should still contain some information about next of kin. It’ll be in PRONI in paper format.

I don’t see a probate abstract for William’s death. They are only on-line up to 1966 or thereabouts. So he probably died after that. What I’d be inclined to do is get a researcher to go through the will calendars in PRONI for 1966 onwards to find William’s probate file. The search could probably be narrowed by searching street directories which may show how long he lived at St Elmo’s. There are copies of the street directories for the 1950s and 1960s in PRONI.
