My great-great grandparents Daniel O'Connell Rush and Mary Elizabeth O'Hara (O'Hare) were married at St. Malachy's church in Kilcoo on October 5, 1841. They migrated to Mississippi shortly after that.  Question is: Who were their parents?  Are there any relatives left in Kilcoo?

  • Without a townland or other information it’ll be difficult to narrow this search. I looked at Griffiths Valuation for 1863 and it lists about 20 people in Kilcoo named Rush. The modern phone book has several in the area too. You might get lucky and find someone with knowledge of their family back that far. You might need to do a DNA test to find out otherwise.

  • Thank you!  I suppose we will just wait until we get there and visit the church to find out.  We have all the family lineage after their marriage, just don't know the names of their parents.

  • Hello Mags,

My Wife who's name is Mary Fitzpatrick has family in Kilcoo. There are a number of her ancestors buired in the Graveyard of St. Malachys Church in Kilcoo,County Down. (She still has living relatives there).

I read your Post and I Found a Daniel Rush that married an Elizabeth O'Hare 5th October 1841. Church Kilcoo Rev. H. O'Neil.

Elizabeth O'Hare (Bapism 1819) took place in Newry, County Down, It's just a few Miles up the road from Kilcoo. (My G,G,Grandfather was married in Newry (Owen Callaghan/Mary McDermott 1864).  There may be some useful Info in the registers that I'm sending?

    Hello Margs,

I missed this Copy of a registers for a Mary O'Hare Baptism 1920 Newry. If you notice there is no O'Connor in Daniel Rushs' name at his marriage in 1841 and it's Elizabeth O'Hare on the marriage registers.   On her Baptism Registers it's just Elizabeth and there is no Elizabeth on Mary O'Hare Baptism Registers.

If you go onto the MyHeritage Web Site there is a Photograph of a Grave Stone beloning to a Daniel Rush Born 1810 Ireland Died 1881. Mississippi. It doesn't say Daniel O'Connor Rush.(That is if he is the right Daniel?)

(There is a good song called Mississippi by a Band called Pussycat.Late 70's). Memories. LoL.

    All the Best
