Hello - I have Eliza Mitchell and John Boyd marriage Sep 20,1838 at Killinchy,Down and am looking for parents of each one - I have Eliza born about 1807 and John Boyd born about 1819 - they immigrated to Scotland where subsequent members of my family line lived in or around Newton Stewart and Mochrum.Specifically, my great grandfather was their son and he was born in Ireland in 1842 and was named William and had a brother born in Scotland named Charles. The marriage was Presbyterian I have tried to get further info from all the records on Ancestry but am at a roadblock. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks very kindly.

  • Dear Dianna

I have had a look on rootsireland.ie and there is a baptism for an Elizabeth Mitchell in Co. Down in 1804 but it is Church of Ireland - father William. The start date for Presbyterian records for that parish begin in 1835 so it may well be the case that they were both born and baptised in a time that predates parish records. Can I ask where you go the marriage info from?

  • Hi again

The only John Boyd Presbyterian baptism in Co. Down for the period 1815-1825 is in 1825 - a John Baxter Boyd, father James Boyd and mother Anne Baxter in Upper Moybrick, 1st Dromara Presbyterian, Co. Down. Again, give the early period it's difficult to say for sure.

    Best wishes
