My great-great grandfather Michael FitzSimons from Moneybot, Townland of Saul married Suzanna Murphy from Slievegrane, Townland of Saul, in 1822.
They had a least five Murphy nieces – Sarah, Sussanna, Isabbela, Ellen/Eleanor & probably Mary. In 1901 the first four nieces lived at 19 John Street, Downpatrick. They were born in the 1830s in the Townland of Killavees. Their occupations were given as laundress & sewer.
Their father’s name was probably Denis, Henry, Bernard, George or Patrick & a Mary Crangle, niece, was present at Sarah Murphy's death.
I would appreciate any assistance in helping to identify their parents & other relations.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know what religious denomination the sisters were? This will help determine where you need to look for records.
Catholic:
Killavees townland belongs to the civil parish of Down and the Catholic parish of Downpatrick. Unfortunately records for Downpatrick parish do not start until 1851:
However, in the19th century new Catholic parishes were created so starting dates can sometimes be misleading. Many parishes changed their geographical spread so you may find earlier records relating to your family in the records of adjoining parishes:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/downrc.htm
Records for Saul parish start much earlier:
As most Catholic records are held locally it may be an idea to contact the local parish priest for possible assistance. Alternatively, you could contact the Ulster Historical Foundation for assistance, however a fee may apply: enquiry@uhf.org.uk
Church of Ireland:
Church of Ireland records generally tend to have an earlier start date as it was the official church in the country at the time. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.

Thanks Emma,
They were Catholic. I have already checked the sources you Emailed.
I feel the only way I'll get any information is if a descendant of the sisters responds.
One site you may be interested in is -http://alecbanmacconaill.org/Saul.pdf It gives the records from Saul RC Parish & I have used it extensively.
Have a good one.

Hi Tim,
This is great-thanks a million for sharing this! We will add this to our resources page for Down. It will be very helpful to others researching family in the parish.
Yes sometimes once all resources have been exhausted the only way forward is to connect with other family members. I hope that someone that who is connected to the sisters does respond to you and helps you with your research.
All the best,
Emma
