I am looking for information regarding the parents and relatives of John Harrison Nolan born 1885 in Seapatrick, Co Down.  He emigrated to the US @ 1905 where he attended seminary and was married to Sophia Ingalls Wallace of Fitchburg, Massachusetts.  He was ordained as an Episcopal priest and was rector of St Peter's Episcopal church in Springfield Mass. @ 1915.

I have no information about his parentage and/or living relatives still in Northern Ireland.  I would appreciate any and all information about the Nolan family.  I will be visiting Ireland in August of this year and would love to visit and meet any and all --- albeit distant relatives-- while we are in Ireland.

Many thanks and Warmest Wishes

Louisa Walker (Grandaughter of John Harrison Nolan)

  • Louisa,

Seapatrick is in the civil registration district of Banbridge. (So births in Seaptrick would be registered in Banbridge). I have searched for a birth there in 1885 but cannot find one. The nearest was in July ? Sep 1881.

I also searched the 1901 census for John aged c 15 in that area but did not find him. How certain are you of your information? (John Nolan is an extremely common name in Ireland so if he was born elsewhere or is older than you think then he?ll be hard to find). There?s no sign of a birth of a John Harrison Nolan anywhere in Ireland in the 1800s.  Suspect the middle name was acquired later in life (as often happened). So you are really just searching for John Nolan and it?s quite important therefore to have other information to ensure you find the right one.

I?d be inclined to get John?s marriage certificate to get his parents names and perhaps verify his age from US censuses to cross check your information that way.
