I am seeking information on the family of Thomas Rickard and Ann Keenan.  Working with the Index to Griffith's Evaluation has lead me to suspect that they may have come from Baldoyle in Dublin County.  They had at least 3 children: Mary, born abt 1833, Ann, born abt 1836 and Thomas, born abt 1838.  The 3 children were living in Buffalo, New York by 1860 - no sign of the parents.  I am interested in finding a marriage record for the parents and birth records for the children.  Emigration records would also be welcome.  I could use some advice as to where I might locate these records.

  • Hi Lawrence,

www.rootsireland.ie has a record of the marriage of Thomas Rickard to Ann ? (not Keenan) in Dublin in 1867 and the parish is Baldoyle. In light of the birth years of the children this way too late!

I couldn't find the births in Dublin of Ann or Thomas (parents Thomas Rickard and mother Ann) but did find: Mary Anne 1826  Catherine 1828 James Joseph 1836 Joseph Patrick 1834 & Patrick 1836

The Tithe Applotments (free to search) has 3 Rickards in Dublin in 1833 including 1 Thomas; there are also 4 Keenans 1825-33

findmypastireland has 2 mentions of Thomas Rickard in Baldoyle 1848. I imagine you've looked at these and at ancestry.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, Col.  I appreciate your looking into this.  With what you have found, do you think this is a dead end? or are there other places where I could look?  Would it be worthwhile for me to contact the local Catholic church in Baldoyle?

  • Hi Larry,

Anything is worth a shot Larry so use any source you can think of - the priest might have some info.

    Have you tried findmypastireland?
