  • We are also researching Ayers, adjacent to your Booterstown, in Donnybrook.

How did you make your connection to Booterstown, and are you familiar with the Ayers families of the areas circa 1800?

    Pleased to hear from you.

  • The link I have to Booterstown is through my Connor/s and Keirans link through my maternal GM, Agnes Connor Kelly born in Glasthule in 1884. Her parents were Patrick Connor and Ellen Theresa Keirans. On their marriage cert. the name of the groom's father is listed as Andrew Connor, a farmer of Rochestown. The name of the bride's father is listed as Thomas Kearns, a gardener of Beechwood. The witnesses were Peter Keiran and Anne Keiran and the celebrant was John Harold, PP. They were married on 24 August 1865 at the Chapel at Ballybrack. The spelling of Cairns also appears on the marriage cert.

Agnes Connor Kelly immigrated to the USA (with her mother Ellen Keirans Connor as a widow) to Waterbury, CT with her brother James to her siblings: Sarah, Briget, Maria, Patrick, Ellen, Mary Anne 'Annie' and brother James. Her brother Andrew Connor m. Maria Nolan who remained in Ireland and lived in Newbridge, Kildare with possibly brother Patrick and sister Catherine also remaining in Ireland.

My Ayers/Ayres connection is not to Booterstown. I know little more than my paternal GM was Mary Ayres/Ayers, the daughter of Thomas Ayres and Mary Walsh. She married a John Kelly in Ireland and then immigrated to the USA finishing up in Elmira, NY.

    Would love to know more.

  • MasonGriffin - these Kellys have driven me mad for years. I have had some research done in Ireland and the closest I come  to a definitive answer is that my Kelly/Ayres comes from County Clare and the area of Kilrush.

With this info we now believe our John Kelly (DOB circa 1830) is the son of either a Patrick Kelly or a John Kelly and he married Mary Ayers in Carrowcalla, Kilrush, County Clare in 1859 and later living in Leadmore Kilrush.

My Mary Ayers is the daughter of Thomas Ayers and Ellen Quinn also of Kilrush. Maybe some of this makes a link/

I have a compiled a spread sheet of Kellys in Elmira and their cemetery burials. Perhaps this might help. I have visited Elmira with some limited success with my brother (my Genie partner in crime). Perhaps this spreadsheet you might like to have a look at. Send me an email to this address and I will forward it to you. My email is "kelly-kiss_familytree AT iinet.net.au"

Perhaps it will help establish a link!

    Cheers ctyank

  • I believe your posts have been about my relatives in Elmira, NY.  I am Robert Kelly.  I believe Simon and Bridget Kelly were my great grandparents.  They are buried in St. Peter's and Paul Cemetary in Elmira.  William (my grandfather) and Martin were sons of their's.  William's wife was Margaret (my grandmother) and her maiden name was Larkin.  My father, also named William died in 2010 at age 89.  My aunt Catherine will turn 92 this February 14th.  She lives in Warwick, NY and she is as sharp as you can imagine and would be a wealth of knowledge into the Kelly's.  I do know that our family originates from County Clare.  This is very interesting to me and I just happened to stumble upon this as I did a Google search of Simon Kelly.
