Hi
I was wondering if a fresh pair of eyes could help me solve this mystery. My G Grandfather Jacobus O'Brien married Rebecca Lewis in1893. She had a sister Elizabeth who Married Thomas Earley in 1900.
Then there were children Walter 1893, James 1894( for whom I can Find no baptism record)Anastasia Ethel 1895 who according to Census records both in Ireland and Scotland lived with James and Rebecca and are classed as sons and daughters but on their baptism records and later death records they say their mother was Elizabeth Lewis. I can't understand why.
UI look forward to hearing from you

Hello Maureen,
Many of Ireland's church records are kept online between two websites. www.rootsireland.ie and www.irishgenealogy.ie
I found the marriage record for Jacobus o Brien and Rebecca Lewis in Dublin in 1893 on www.irishgenealogy.ie
I cannot find the records for either Walter or Asastatia but I did find the baptismal record for James O Brien, Father James O Brien, mother Rebecca Lewis in 1894 in Co Cork. This is found on the www.rootsireland.ie site.
I also found a baptismal record for an Ellen Mary O Brien, Father James O Brien, mother Rebecca Lewis in Dublin in 1906. Sponsor was Lizzie Early. this is on www.irishgenealogy.ie
On irishgenealogy I found a baptismal record for Rebecca Lewis born 1873 and baptised in 1893 Father Jacobus Lewis mother Rebecca Paisley
I found a baptismal record for Elizabeth Lewis born 1877 and baptised 1900 . Sponsor was Rebecca O Brien.
I don't knowif this answers any of your questions but they all seem to be your family. On looking back through the records I can see that there was another sister Martha in 1872, and brother Thomas Lewis in 1870.
Don't know if any of this helps,
Kind regards,
Anne Dennehy

Hi after looking into the above information I saw that you found a baptisimal record for James O'Brien and I tried to find it on the Irish Geneology site but couldn't. I was wondering how it could be on the one site and not the other?

Hello Maureen,
Many, not all, of the church records are online between two sites. www.rootsireland.ie and www.irishgenealogy.ie.
The churches gave rootsireland permission to digitise their records, however there were a few churches/counties who ,(for whatever reason) didn't allow this company access .
Therefore, the government stepped in to put the remaining few counties online at www.irishgenealogy.ie
If you look at the homepages of both sites you will see which ones are covered by that site. Irishgenealogy deals with half of Co. Cork, Part of Dublin, County Carlow, County Kerry.
rootsireland deals with the rest, except for Co. Clare who up until now liked their own heritage centre to answer queries, but I believe they are starting to come online now.
The record for James is on the www.rootsireland.ie site in Co. Cork. At some point your family must have lived or worked in Co. Cork. You will have to purchase the record to view and print it, but it is only about €5. Registration is free.
Hope I have explained things a bit better,
Let me know if you have any more questions,
Kind regards,
Anne
