I am reaching out to decendents of Michael Sherlock and Jane Duff of Skerries.  Several members of my family will be visiting Skerries on Thursday, July 4, 2013 to see where my grandfather's family came from and we are hoping to possibly connect with our some of our Irish relatives.  We are from the U.S. (New York and New Hampshire).  My mother, Alice (Sherlock) O'Mara is the daughter of Luke Sherlock, who was a son of Michael and Jane.  Alice just turned 85 and part of the reason for our family trip is to celebrate her birthday and give her the opportunity to visit Ireland one more time.  Her father died when she was only 2, and she has never met any of his family in Ireland.  Terry Sherlock, for whom a memorial is erected in (or near) Sherlock Park was Alice's uncle and Luke Sherlock's brother.  I believe there are still many Sherlock decendents living in the area.

We will be visiting the memorial and Holmpatrick Cemetery the morning of July 4th, arriving via a custom CIE Tour coach.  If it would be possible to contact some Sherlock relatives to meet us there, it would mean so much to my Mom and to all of us.  In addition to Mom (Alice), will be myself, Alicia O'Mara DuBois and my son Dan; my brother Kevin O'Mara and his wife Janet; my sister Laura O'Mara and her daughter Megan; and my sister Elaine O'Mara-Hulbert and her husband Bruce.

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you!

Alicia DuBois

  • Hi Alicia,

I have just come accross your message tonight on the Holmpatrick site of Ireland Reaching Out. Unfortunately it is much too late for any of the Skerries Reaching out committee to meet you or help you out with your searches, but perhaps you made some contacts through the Holmpatrick site.  Holmpatrick is actually part of the Skerries parish in the Barony of Balrothery in Co Dublin.  I hope that you did indeed make some contact for there are indeed Sherlock families living in Skerries at present. If you havnt had any success please contact me or the Skerries Reaching Out page on this site and we would be happy to make some contacts for your mother.  I hope that she had a wonderful trip overall and is happy to have made contact with her parents soil.

    Kind regards,

    Dermac
