Alice, Godfrey, Richard and Mary Ann Hogan arrived in New Zealand together in 1865. In records in NZ they were described as having come from Castlegregory, I thought they could be siblings but I believe Mary Ann's father was Michael a stonemason, and Richard's father possibly a builder - maybe they were cousins? In the Griffiths Valuation 1852 I found a Michael Hogan in the parish of Killiney, but how do I know it is the correct one? Are there any records that could help me find more trace of their family?

  • Dear AJ, can you tell us why you believe that Michael was a stonemason. I have found a Michael Hogan of Main St. Castlegregory who is a policeman in this record in 1860

If the father was indeed a policeman then the children might not show up in Castlegregory Church records since they may have relocated from another part of Ireland.

Do you know if the family were Catholic or Church of Ireland?

Looking forward to hearing from you again.
