My name is William Gould. I am trying to find my ancestors and need some help. I am looking for my great-great grandparents. Mary Fisherman is my great grandmother, and I am trying to find her parents. Mary Fisherman was born 1 October 1885, in County Dublin. I have her death date as 29 October 1946, in County Dublin. Her husband was John Lamb (born 1876 in Newbridge, Kildare; died 24 July 1943, County Dublin).
I appreciate any assistance you can offer.
Thank you!

There?s no birth for a Mary Fisherman anywhere in Ireland at any time from 1864 onwards, let alone in 1885, nor anyone named Fisherman listed in the whole 1901 Irish census. How sure are you about the spelling of the surname? What?s your source?
There is a marriage for Mary Fishman in Oct ? Dec 1902 Dublin North. This might be her in the 1901 census:

I can?t see a birth for that surname though either.

Thank you for your help. My original search started in trying to find my greatgrandparents. My grandmother, Mary Josephine Lamb, came to the United States as a teenage girl. The only information I have had for her was what my father could remember his mother telling him. Through the assistance of others and a later census record, I found that Mary's parents were John Lamb and Mary Lamb. Through notes from my father and a family tree of another, I found a last name for Mary of Fisherman. However, based on the census record you sent me, I believe her last name is actually Fishman.
In looking at the census record, she is the step daughter in the Colgan household. In my notes from conversations with my dad, I have the surname Colgan for my great-greatgrandmother. Based on the 1901 census record she was in the Colgan family, but her father was someone Fishman and her mother was Mary with an unknown maiden name.
If you have any additional information on Mary Fishman's parents, I would greatly appreciate it. I thank you for the help that you have already given me.

I would order a copy of the marriage certificate which should give you her father?s name and his occupation. You can order a photocopy of the cert from GRO Roscommon for 4 euros. Quote the location, quarter, year, volume & page number on your application form.
