I am trying to identify informationwith regards the  occupation my gt gt grandfather James Farrell (c 1835) and for my gt grandfather Patrick James Farrell.

I have identified that PJ Farrell was  registered as a clerk and typewriter in the1901 census, and by 1911 census it shows he was a clerk to Rathdown Union.

Past family recollections seem to highlight that there was a JP in the family, but to date `i have had no successs in finding any further information. I was hoping you may be able to point me in the direction of where to look? Patrick James' brother was named John Joseph Farrell, and although there was a mayor of Dublin of that time with a similar name I am not sure if they are related.

Patrick James' father (James Farrell born c1835 in wicklow) is interesting. I cannot identify any mention of his occupation on any of the relevant certificates (His marriage to anne davis in 1856 in Enniskerry Wick, nor any of his childrens birth records). As it seems to have been omitted I wonder if it was deliberate? or if it ay be that he was in the RIC as his eldest child Margaret was born in Tyrone in 1858 before returning to Powerscourt an dlater Rathfarnham. I was wondering if could you confirm if there was any secrecy with regard to held occupations at this time?

Hoping you may be able to help

Kind regards

Stella Scott
