I am searching for James Bernard Sherlin and family. James was my 5th G-Grandfather. Family records show he was born in Ireland in 1729 and died in Dublin in 1816.
Two of his son's, Richard L. Sherlin and James H. (or B.) Sherlin lieft Ireland in the summer of 1800 and arrived in Savannah, Georgia, USA and settled in Sevier County, Tennessee, USA near the end of that summer.
I am trying to find my SHerlin Ancestor's in the Dublin area during that time. The Sherlin's were also listed as being GENTRY and disspossed by Cromwell in 1652 found in the Irish Pedigree books written by O'Hart.
Evidently, the informaton on them is kept at Trinity College. Can anyone help guide me to find more information on the Sherlin's? I have been researching 40 years and this one thing has always been difficult to find.

Hi Steven,
Thank you very much for your message. you are very lucky to have been able to go back so far in your family history-most people hit the brick wall in the early 1800?s!
It may be difficult to find more information on James unfortunately. Firstly, you do not have a specific parish of birth for him. If his birth or baptism was recorded, then it would be most likely still held by that parish, so without knowing where he was born you won?t know where to look for records. Also, his year of birth is very very early and the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.
It may be an idea to contact the Dun Laoghaire Heritage and Genealogy Centre to see if they can assist you or give you some advice, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: cmalone@dlrcoco.ie
You could also try contacting Trinity College to see what information they have:

Sorry I couldn?t be of more assistance., hopefully someone who is researching the same family will make a connection with you and share information.
Kind regards,
