My great grandfather, James D. Casey, was born on 21 February 1831, in the townland of Greenmount, Molough, County Tipperary, he emigrated to the United states about 1857, settling in Columbia, SC (USA).The original information about his origin was obtained from his grave marker in Raleigh, North Carolina (USA) Further information was obtained through research done years ago by the Waterford Heritage Society. They found that James was the son of Richard and Mary Casey (Butler). We did not pay the Waterford Heritage Society to find out if there was any further information available concerning Richard or Mary. James had nine brothers and sisters according to the WHS research: John 1815, Michael 1812, Ellen 1821, Margaret 1822, Mary 1825, Richard 1827, Johanna 1829, Mary 1833, and William1833.
James was married (we think in the Molough area, as they appeared to have emegrated as husband and wife) to Ellen Manley, who was born in January 1836, near Crosmolina, County Mayo, Ireland. Much research on her family has proven negative and we feel the family was disrupted by the famine. It is possible that she was living in the Molough area prior to emigrating. The information about her origin was obtained from her grave marker in Raliegh, North Carolina (USA)
