I am researching Breens in Clare.  My great grandather Patrick James Breen was from Labasheeda, but I believe his parents Timothy and Bridget were from Cooraclare.  I believe Bridget was born in Cooraclare in 1808, but I don't know her maiden name.  Bridget and her children Patrick, John, and Jane emigrated to the US in the late 1860s and ended up in Nashville, TN.  I would enjoy talking to anyone who is interested.

  • Dear Kevin:

thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!  Do you have any other information about Bridget Breen such as a date of death and a death certificate which might give a clue to her maiden name?  Any other information would be a great help as theree were a number of Breen families in the Labasheeds and Cooraclare area.

If you would like to email me with further information, please do so at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.

Thanks so much for responding.  Bridget died in Nashville, Tennessee, in August, 1883, and her death certificate says she was 73.  She is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Nashville, and her gravestone says she was born in Cooraclare in 1808, which pretty much matches the age in the death certificate.  I have no reference to her maiden name, and only one reference to her husband's first name - Timothy - but it does seem pretty clear that Timothy did not accompany the family to the U.S., and her death certificate says she was a widow.  That's about what I know.  There are other Breens in Nashville in the 1860s and thereafter, and I've also been trying to figure out whether they are related.  Many thanks for any help you can give.
