Hi Carriesa - I am messaging in relation to the Thomas Parr story from Aghsmear. I am a descendant of the Pratt family who lived at Aghsmear. Rebecca Pratt was, I think, a sister to my Great Grandfather, Henry Pratt of Aghsmear. I am researching this side of my family at the moment and may have more information. According to a close relative, a Harry Pratt later emigrated to South Africa from the same family. Would love to hear more from you.
I am also interested in the MOYNAN family of Cullahill and Castlefleming.
Thank you,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I knew the Harry Pratt you mention who later emigrated to South Africa. He spent a number of years out there and eventually came home and took over the family farm. He married and had two children, a boy and a girl.He died rather suddenly a few years ago, having only been ill a couple of weeks. His wife still lives in the family home at Aghsmear.
The other query you had about the Moynan family of Cullahill. I happen to know them also.I spoke with a Moynan decendant who wasn't able to make any connection between the Moynan, Parr or Pratt families, and maybe there isn't . I would need more information from you as to your connection with the Moynan family to pursue it further.
I live in Cullahill but there are no Moynan's there now. The house still stands but has not been occupied for many years.
I await hearing from you and will again see what further information i can obtain for you

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your reply. You mentioned Harry Pratt - you mean Johnny Pratt. He was my uncle. My mother Sarah Pratt married Harry Moynan from Cullahill - she remembers you as a young lad in Cullahill!! I am researching the Moynan side also and am particularly interested to find out where the Moynans came from before Cullahill.
The Tithe Applotments for Bourney record a Thomas Moynan (or then spelled Minahan) around 1830's. He was my GG Grandfather. I have visited the old homeplace in Cullahill and some outbuildings date back well before then. I was brought up in Co. Leitrim so did not find out much being so far away.
There are probably still some people around who know a bit about the family - The St. Leger brothers were mentioned to me before but I didn't get a chance to meet them.
Was there a connection I wonder with the Guider family who originally owned Byrne's as the two properties are so close together. Weren't Guiders landlords originally - I thought I may have read that somewhere as there was an article online about a Sweeney from the Cullahill lane who was transported to Australia for setting fire to Guiders'. He did well after and built a copy of the house in Cullahill. Did you know about that? I've seen the old house on the way down to Moynans.
Thanks again for your reply and I would be most interested in anything you can find out about the Moynan family.
Regards,
Andrew Moynan

Hi Andrew,
Yes, indeed I did mean your Uncle Johnny Pratt. Good thing someone is keeping an eye on what I write. My source of information is from the other Moynan family of Cullahill. Will be in touch again when I find out a bit more.
Regards ,
Michael.

Hi Andrew
I have a Moynan tree which goes back to a Nathaniel Moynan who died in 1882 - his wife was a Mary Abbot who died on 23 July 1862. Nathaniel was called Mathew and was from Bourgia in Co. Tipperary. His father was John Moynan. Your grandmother on your fathers side was Charlotte ,wife of William Moynan(Castlefleming).Wm. Was a son of Nathaniel.Your grandfather,Robert , was a son of Thomas who was also a son of Nathaniel.
I think I’ve got this right!
Do know of a Cindy Moynan of Quebec, Canada
