I had been working with Roger who was very helpful in learning more about my ancestors on my grandmother's side in County Sligo. I am now hoping that someone could help me with my grandfathers family.
My Great Grandfather's name was Patrick Sheehan. Born in 1875 to Ellen Pickley and Michael Sheehan. I know of one sibling only, Michael. Both Patrick and Michael and possibly other siblings came over to the United States in the 1890's. I was told by a great aunt that Ellen and Michael died young and their children were raised in an orphanage in Rathkeale.
I am having trouble finding death records of Ellen Pickley Sheehan and Michael Sheehan. If one of their children were born in 1875, I would imagine they would have died in the 1880's.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Patrick was born on the 11th March 1874 (IrishGenealogy website) - place of birth and residence is Rathkeale, and his father Michael is shown as a cooper. There's also a probable match for Michael's death on the 5th June 1891 at Rathkeale workhouse - reported age 50 and occupation cooper. The informant is a James Hassett an employee of the workhouse. Michael is shown as a widower so it seems that Ellen died sometime before June 1891

There's also a possible match for Ellen's death - on the 3rd November 1887 in Rathkeale. Ellen is recorded as a wife of a labourer with reported age is 35, status married, and the informant is a Michael Sheahan her husband.

thank you for the previous information, I am trying to find Ellen Pickley's parents names with her mothers maiden name.
I wonder if you could help me with something else. My two sisters and I (all are in our mid 60's) with my husband are going to Ireland in a few months. My great grandparents on each side were born in Ireland, on one side in Co. Sligo, and the Sheehan (Sheahan) side in Rathkeale. We want to stay in Rathkeale, visit the church graveyard and the town itself, but in my research I am finding many news articles about Rathkeale being the home to "Travellers".
The implication is that crime is high in that area, and I am a little sqeamish about staying in Rathkeale overnight. I would love some guidance.. would we be safe there in your opinion? Would you recommend to members of your family to stay in Rathkeale?
Any help you could give would be so appreciated!
