Ellen Maize (also may be known as Nellie Maize or Nellie Ellen Maize), my great grandmother, was born in Lisnaskea, Fermanagh, in 1837. She arrived in Canada 12 years later with her father, John Maize. There was no mother on record and it is assumed that the father was a widower. She later married a James Denny Alexander and came the the United States, ending up in Somerset, Kentucky where she died 14 Dec 1887. We are interested in any information about the family in Ireland, but to date have had no luck in tracing the family's Irish roots.
For anyone researching the Maize line, there are many descendants in Canada and throughout the United States.

LISNASKEA is a town, was your g-Grandmother born in a Town or on a farm ??
In the 1830s there were a few MAYS and MAZE families in Fermanagh, but no MAIZEs.
Mays, Mathew - Galloon - Bellahullagh 1834.....
Mays, Mathw. - Galloon - Tattygare 1834.....
Maze, Henry - Aghalurcher - Cornaskea 1833.....
Maze, James - Aghavea - Drummoris 1832.....
A couple of them are still in Fermanagh in 1862.....

Maize/Mays/Maze: Family oral history, notes, and research so far say that she was born in LISNASKEA. Spelling may also be Maise. I have found families under this spelling. However, I can establish no links.
Many thanks for the information! I will keep working on this and will post any updates.
