hi,

I wonder if you can tell me if the Church of the Immaculate Conception Church in Tempo has Marriage and Baptism records for the 1830s ?

My g-Grandfather Michael FEE and his siblings were probably Baptised there 1832-1843.

Maybe my g-g-Grandparents were married in the Church c.1830 ??

The Church was built in 1826.

Regards,

SEAN

You have put this query under Aghavea parish but mention Tempo church which is in Enniskillen parish. So, to cover both options, according to the PRONI website, there are no marriage records for Aghavea RC before 1866. Baptisms start 1862. For Tempo RC, baptisms and marriages both only start in 1845.

  • OK, thank you for that information.

The local RC Church was Tempo, but the family lived in the Townland of Tattykeeran which is in the Parish of Aghavea ??

I don't know the area, was there not a RC Church in Aghavea ??

Maybe Tempo was the closest RC Church ??

Oddly some BMD records were registered in Enniskillen, and others in Lisnaskea.

Does this mean ceremonies were performed in different Churches ??

There?s an RC church in Aghavea. I think it?s in Brookborough. PRONI have the following copies. There are unlikely to be any earlier records. Later records should still be with the church.

Aghavea (Brookeborough) Clogher diocese) Baptisms, 1862-82; marriages, 1866-81 and 1896-7.

Re the events being in different registration districts, that would indicate they took place in different locations. Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church whereafter she?d attend her husband?s. That may account for the variation in locations of marriages. For births and deaths it depended on which townland you were in.
