I have been searching for many years for more information on my Gr. Gr. Grandfather Patrick Meehan b. circa 1783 (as it says on his gravestone in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada.) He married Margaret Clark(e) b. 1809 and he/they came to Canada around 1830 (assumed by record of birth of first son.) I have no information on their marriage, ship, departure from Ireland or arrival in Canada.Patrick died 13 September 1867 and Margaret died 21 July 1872 - both in Lindsay, Ontario. I will greatly appreciate any information that I may receive.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You can use this site   http://www.swilson.info/sdist.php  to see where surnames were found in Ireland in the mid-19th century. Both Clarke and Meehan were very common surnames and found in many counties.

I did a quick search on Roots Ireland and there was no Patrick Meehan marriage to a Clarke around 1830 on their data base. Many RC parishes do not have records back to the 1830 era.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing? Possibly you may match someone who has Meehan and/or Clarke connections back to ireland and more info on where the families were from.

I just noticed that you posted in Devenish parish in Co. Fermanagh. All of the RC parishes in the Devenish area have records starting 1847 or later.
