We have been researching the Wilson family who originate from Fermanagh.

Hugh Wilson migrated to Australia, arriving on the ship “Fitz James” on 1 April 1857 at the age of 23 years (Thus, he was born in 1835). The ship record states that he was born in the parish of Drumkeeran and was a farm labourer with good prospects. His religion was Church of Ireland. The record also notes that his parents were both dead. He paid 1 pound for the journey and the origin of the journey is listed as Trim, Co. Meath.

He married Esther Sophia Huxley in NSW on 24 January 1861 (at the age of 26 years). He died on 11 September 1919 at the age of 84 years.

Family information suggests that Hugh’s parents were Robert Wilson and Catherine Little.

I’d like to find out any information about the family in Fermanagh.

Michael.

  • A copy of the Church of Ireland records for Drumkeeran is kept in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast:

C.I. Drumkeeran (Clogher diocese) Baptisms, 1801-1944; marriages, 1801-1904; burials, 1836-1943.

You might therefore find Hugh?s baptism, that of any siblings and perhaps his parents marriage (assuming the bride also came from that parish), plus his parents burials.

These records are not on-line and so you will either need to go to PRONI or get a researcher to look them up for you.
