Hello, I'm searching for information regarding my paternal Grandmother, Catherine McCormick. I don't know the year of her birth, or precisely where she was born. She must have been born in the mid to late 1890's and lived on her parents farm. I am given to understand that the nearest big town was Enniskillen. I know she had a brother named Joseph, and possibly one named Michael. She married my Grandfather, Charles Boyle, who I beleive came from Roscommon - but it could have been Monaghan. They moved in the late 1920's to Blantyre, Scotland where my grandfather became a coal miner. They had six children - four boys and two girls. I would love to trace my ancestry but my Grandfather, for some reason, had no birth certificate, and most of my relatives are passed on, making things very difficult indeed. Any help would be very much appreciated.

If you obtain a copy of Charles & Catherine?s marriage certificate, it should contain her parents names. You can then use that to search for her family on the 1901 & 1911 Irish censuses:

Be aware that the spelling of the surname McCormick may vary, as may Catherine which could be Kathleen, Kate etc. This is the only child of roughly the right age I can see at present in Co Fermanagh in 1901 but, as I say, you?ll need her parents names to confirm that.

Mullaghboy is near Newtownbutler and isn?t particularly close to Enniskillen so this may not be the right family.
