Remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

  • Here is more information about the subject of this post - David Wilkin (III).

    1.  David Wilkin [III] was born 1 August 1819 in Enniskillen (according to family tradition) to David Wilkin [II] and his wife Isabella Hunter.  They moved to Paisley, Scotland in the 1830.  He married Isabella McNaior 21 July 1839 in Paisley, Scotland.  I found their marriage record and it only mentions their names, date and place of marriage.

    2.  David Wilkin [II] (father of David III) was born about 1785. Family tradition suggests he was born in Dromore, Tyrone.  He married Isabella Hunter, date and place unknown.  Isabella was supposedly born in Drumskinney, Drumkeeran, Fermanagh.  They had a son David (see #1 above).  At some point he married Mary Cowan and had a daughter named Isabella born about 1820.  She married William McEwen in Paisley, Scotland 17 May 1840.  She died in Paisley 30 July 1875.  I downloaded her death record from ScotlandsPeople online.  In it, her parents are listed as David Wilking and Mary Cowan.  David Wilkin [II] had a 3rd child we know of - William Wilkin born about 1824-1828 in Ireland.  We're unsure if hismother is Mary Cowan, or someone else.  William married Sarah in Scotland, and eventually emigrated to England, and then left England in 1851 for the USA.  David Wilkin [II] at some point married Ann Kerr.  She died in Paisley, Scotland 18 Jun 1857.  David died 17 April 1862.  I downloaded his death reord from ScotlandsPeople online.  In it, his parents are listed as David Wilkie [I] and wife Elizabeth Weir or Keir (the handwriting was hard to read.)  I also found David in the 1841, 1851, and 1861 Scotland census records.  They lived at #7 Wellmeadow Street in Paisley High Church, Glasgow, Scotland.  His occupation was listed as a laborer in 2 of the censuses, and as a thatcher in one.

    3.  David Wilkin [I]  married Elizabeth Weir or Keir

My husband and I would like to bring our family to Ireland in the next year or two, so I've been really trying to learn where some of our Irish ancestors were from.  Any ideas or help in solving where the Wilkins, Hunters and Weir/Keirs lived would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,
