I have confirmation that a Patrick Bourke & Susan McHugh where my Great Grandmother Cecilia's parents any information of sibling's of Cecilia's would be great. Family folklore is that Cecilia Bourke came out to Australia with her cousin John McHugh (or McCue) using her cousins sister's name Ellen or Helen as the sister was unable to make the journey and the tickets were paid for.
My research has found a John and Ellen McHugh (alias Cecilia Bourke) departed Plymouth 18 Sep 1874 arriving in Sydney on16th Dec 1874 on Vessel "Samuel Plimsoll". Also found a John & Ellen McHugh with parents Dennis and Margaret McHugh.
As this is my first contact with your group I can only hope my message is not too confusing and or lacking detail all my research so far in finding any information in regard my ancestors has been fruitless so any scrap of information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your message.
Have you done a thourough check of the immigration records in Australia? Generally, more information concerning an individual was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. The Public Record Office of Victoria has good online databases of settlers at www.prov.vic.gov.au Otherwise, other records may be found in the Colonial Office Papers of the UK National Archives, class reference CO 201. This class contains a wide variety of records, including petitions for assisted passages, emigrants' lists, records of emigrants on board ship, petitions from settlers for financial assistance and much more.
