Hi fellow Irishmen,

I'm looking to learn more about my great-great-great grandmother, Catherine McFadden. She was born in County Fermanagh in 1817 and later moved to Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada.

Does anyone know anything about the McFadden family in this area?

Thanks very much!

  • Hi Felicity,

    Thanks for your message.

Do you have any other information on Catherine that you could post? In particular the name of the parish, or even town/village in Co. Fermanagh that she lived in? This is very important in terms of looking at sources such as church records as most of these were collected and remain on a local level.

Do you have any documentation that mentions any townland/parish/village/town? Do you know much about her emigration? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. If you knew where she arrived this may be a good place to find information, and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For information on immigration into Canada try the Library and Archives of Canada at the following address:

I hope that some of these weblinks help. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
