Have come across the marriage record  of Eleanor Magreese to David Ingram in Ardess,  Magheraculmoney, Co Fermanagh, on 18th November 1806.

Would most interested to hear of any links to this couple, in partic to Eleanor Magreese.  Any links here may well progress my quest to find the parents of William McGreece b c 1805, most likely Co Fermanagh.

William married Jane Cashon /Cashore 19th July 1826, Tubrid Church, Portanoid, Drumkeeran Parish, Co Fermanagh.

Wm and Jane's  first child was a daughter Sidney which leads me to believe that Sidney McGreece,  buried 29th April 1859 at Templecarn, Co Donegal aged 75 [ b c 1784 ] could be William's mother !!

Great many different surname spellings found;  McGreece / McGreese / McGrease / McGrace / McGrice / McGriece / MaGreese / M'Griece /  McGrieve  !!!

Most apprecaitive of any assistance

  • Hi Stephen,

    Firstly Thank You for taking the time to reply to post re David and Eleanor Ingram.  After about 20 years of researching and posting you are first possible personal link I have with my ancestors in Ireland !!

    I found the marriage record of David and Eleanor at the following link ;

    http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/fermanagh/churches/Ardess-Marria…

    this is a PDF record transcribed by George Armstrong;  I have not viewed the original which I think PRONI hold.  As I am in Australia am unable to visit and view;  to get to where I am today re McGreece / Magreese etc family I  paid researchers in Ireland to view church records many years ago.  I do note that the transcribers at Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives do indicate if they are unable decipher the written record with some certainty:  leaving spaces or ?? marks.

    I see from my researching that spelling was not a important consideration in early records with variations between births in the same family, marriages etc;  " spell it as you like depending on the person writing the record " and those whose record was being recorded were most likely illiterate !!

    All that aside, probably the most important question for me is;  Do you have ANY details of Eleanor and her family ? Where she was born,  her parents, silblings etc;  written records or whatever ?

    Regards

    Hi Malcolm

    I wouldn't have any information on Eleanor but I'll certainly look and see. My late uncle Noel did a considerable amount of research on the Ingrams, getting back to James Ingram in 1610. It's rubbed off on me!!

    my email is stepheningram69@hotmail.com if it'll be easier to contact.

    regards

  • Hi Malcome
    On our family tree it’s as Magee. David and Eleanor had four children;
    Mary b 1 nov 1807
    Anne b 15 July 1810
    John b 10 dec 1815
    Robert b 14 may 1824

    I have no birth or death date for Eleanor but David lived till the age of 94, passed away on 19 June 186. They all lived on a townland called Drumcose. That part of the tree ends there with no recorded generations.
