I am seeking immigration information for my great x6 grandfather,John Gillogly, born in Enniskillen around 1744. He married Anna Jane Moore and had 8 children. He, his wife, and at least 3 of his children (William, Hugh, and Samuel) came to the United States in the late 1700's-early 1800's. One family member said they sailed in 1806. John Gillogly died in 1855 and is buried in Muskingum County, Ohio, USA.

I would like to know when John Gillogly and family members sailed, the name of the ship, the date they left Ireland and the port they landed at in North America. Children are: William, born approx. 1769, Hugh, born approx. 1765 (my great x5 grandfather), John, Thomas, Robert, Margaret, Mary and Samuel.

  • The period you are looking at will almost certainly only have deeds, wills, contemporary records etc to provide any information. To get these will mean trawling through many sources. The Registry of Deeds may have something. As yet it has not been made available online although the volunteers who are transcribing the basic info in them are doing a fabulous job. Of the deeds so far listed only 2 Gilhuly in Leitrim.

There is also the problem of working through the many variant spellings.
