Good evening all,

I am in search of a Mr. Robert Robinson who married Faith Knox (parish of Magheraculmoney b.1803 to Andrew and Mary) in 1826 in St Mary's Church in Ardess. I have the marriage record for it. The reason that I am posting here is that on the record it states the he is from Parish of Templecarn on said document. I have been unable to find this man for the last 15 years of researching.

I have lots of documentation (holes in certain places) of his kids and lineage after said date but can't find him anywhere.

I find it amazing that even being on Ancestry for 10 years, nobody has come up with anything. Any helpis greatly appreciated.

Will be heading there in September of '15 in hopes of finding something.

  • Hi Chris

I couldn't find the marriage record on rootsireland

I assume the record does not have his parents' names?

ancestry trees have him born 1785 in Fermanagh but neither www.rootsireland.ie/ or findmypastireland has this record.

As you are no doubt aware, although his address was Templecarn at the time of his marriage, he could have been born elsewhere.

I assume there is no age on the marriage record either?

There are 30 Robinsons in Fermanagh in the name search on PRONI but no mention of Templecarn which can also come under Donegal.

No luck on the early Irish censuses.

I got excited when I found Robinsons in Doneal in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 with some in Templecrome as I thought there might be a connection with Templecarn but they are at opposite sides of the county!

  • Chris,

You don?t say what denomination Robert Robinson was. However I?ll assume Church of Ireland. According to the index on the PRONI website, Templecarn has two COI churches. One at Muckros, which has no records earlier than 1868 (previous records destroyed in the 1922 fire in Dublin). Plus Templecarn itself, which has no records before 1825. So part of the reason you cannot trace him may be that the relevant baptism records no longer exist. There?s no easy solution to that problem.

    Robert/Faith marriage

Thank you for your reply! The ancestry date of 1785 is hard to believe but not uncommom. his denomonation stated in other censuses that they were Wesleyan Methodist. Faith (wife) was born in 1803 having children 1829-1842. This put robert having children at 57 years old, immigration dates of 1856 to Penetangore (now Kincardine, Ontario Canada) and dissapears. We have no death record or date for Faith as again, fire destroyed all records in Kincardine.

We have an account on Ancestry (my father and I) as Alr67. I assume the ones you found was George, Mary and Robert in Derryvullan - Liscrievan? Have seen that 1821 census record but am unable as of yet to link them to us. I am hoping that it is them and the Templecarn entry was a mistake. It would make more sense to them being in Derryvullan as to all thier childern and marriages were in Ardess.

Trying to research those 3 have been proving to be formidable as well, nothing..
