I am trying to find details of Luke Coghlan born 1805 Co Galway and Ellen Nevin born 1809 in Esker, Co Galway they had 9 children before leaving for Australia in 1853. One of their sons John was born in 1837 in Co Galway.

Records for the Parish of Abbeyknockmoy begin in 1821. There are a few Esker place names in Galway in various different parishes. The nearest to Abbey, would be the Civil Parish of Ballymacward where records begin in 1856 or Moylough where records begin in 1848.
I had a look on www.rootsireland.ie but could not see a marriage record for Luke and Ellen or any baptism records for the children. It may be that they married and their children were baptised in a parish and at a time that predates the parish records. As civil registration does not begin until 1864 we are dependent before that time on those parish records. I couldn?t find any record of a Luke Coghlan/Coughlan on Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864) either.
Have you tried searching Ancestry.com for any mention of your ancestor?s name in member family trees or messages?
