My great great grandmother bridget Cochlan/ Couglan/ Coglan was born in Galway. I would like to upload her story on the XO Chronicles but do not have the name of the Parish where she was born what can I do? She has an interesting story to tell.

She met her future husband on the voyage to Australia.

    Hi Daisey,

Sounds like we first have to find out where your great grandmother was born in Galway, do you have a birth year or estimated birth year for her?

I checked www.rootsireland.ie and found 42 baptism entries for a Bridget Coghlan in Galway  we really need a birth year

  • She emigrates in 1841 gives her age as 20 but possibly only 17. She died in Victoria in 1902 thought to be 78. This would make birth year 1824. Family story is both parents died before 1841 - does not get on with step mother so leaves home.

  • Searched 'Roots Ireland' today for Bridget Coghlan found four pssibilities - 2 in Tynahg, Galway, and 2 in Cappataggle,Galway. Should I put posts on both these sites to see iff anyone claims them (could narrow serch down)  The years rang e from 1820 1822 so all are possibilities.

  • No need to post elsewhere, we need to narrow it down, sometimes it is worth checking if there was a naming patters used, do you know the names of Bridgets children? First born son might be named after her husbands father, second born son after Bridgets father etc
