Hi, hope I am not jumping in here.
My inlaws were Coastguard Officers and I have kept various links when searching.
They were stationed in Donegal 2x areas, Mayo, Sligo and Clare. Moving back to Portsmouth, England.

What I did notice that it only lists Officers. One of the inlaws family married a coastguard boatman and he is not listed.

Can't seem to find any other information. 

You say Morgan was born in Dungloe..... this is Donegal.
Every year we go to a festival in Adrara this is not far from Dungloe.
With the Corvid Virus this year it may be cancelled, just waiting to hear.
Next visit we are to go to Dungloe and further north. Any info I see I will send on.

Thank you Margot for the information you sent me today. We visited the renovated CoastGuard station a couple of years ago when we were visitng Ireland. We also visited Dungloe so it would be great if you find any information there for me. Thanks for sending me the links. I couldnt find Morgan on the Genuki listsm, but he was a rating.

Im pretty certain that the Margaret Sweeney Death registration belongs to Morgans wife. This is very exciting news. It places Morgan in Clifden in the correct period for the death details for him to be the corrrect Morgan Sweeny who died in 1875 Is there any way I can look up the pension records for the Coastguard?

I didnt know there was an Ellen in the family but I have the family on the 1841 Wyke Regis census(without Morgan) He is listed in Clifden in the ADM175 records as living in Clifden in 1848 (time of Ellens brith) and further children Daniel 1853 and John 1855 being born in Ballee and Lecale, Strangford. Is it possible to obtain death certificates with the names of spouses and children listed? Thanks for all the information, I really appreciate it, Kate

The Civil records were introduced in 1864, so before then we only have Church records.
Some of those are very hard to read. 
Going by the date you gave, I looked at a map for Stangford then went to the registers.nli.ie stite to pick up the Parish.
Ballycutter.........then saw the Ballee place.
This is Daniel's Baptism 6th down. 1853

Pension records...... not sure where you would look for these.

Was he a Sailor?
I havn't got  ancestry now but if you could look up the 1871 Census you would be able to see his family.

In case you are wondering about the death record for Morgan Sweeney, Clifden, I hope to have details by Tuesday 20th.

Due to the Corona virus many staff in Civil Registration Offices are deployed to other duties. The Clerk confirmed that he was recorded as "Coast Guard".

The Morgan Sweeney above born 1836, I have been following him in the England Census, he was with the Customs people in 1881 and 1901 he was in Chatham in Kent. As the Coastguard and Navy were all one years ago, there is a big or was a big Naval Base there.(My brother was there years ago) Up to 1901 Morgan had never married.

thank you for the information about Daniel and John Sweeny's baptisms in Ballee.

I am also looking for the Baptism of their sister Margaret, who is my direct ancestor. She was born around 1838 or 39. Morgan was transferred from Dungloe to Killkerin, Galway in 1838. I havent been able to find her baptism or the marriage of Morgan and Margaret Burke that must have taken place about 1830, as their eldest child James was 10 in 1841 on the census for Wyke Regis.

The Wyke Regis family is definitely the right one. Daughters Hannah and Margaret both came to Australia together and name Morgan Sweeny, Coastguard and Margaret Burke as their parents on their Marriage Certificates. 

I checked the 1871 census for Daniel and found him as a 17 year old on a Naval ship. It makes sense that he would be a sailor as his father was in the Coastguard service. Where did you find the details of his family that you mentioned?

Margaret died tragically on 5 November,1888  and was attended to by the coroner. Do you know if its possible to check the coroners reports? Ive tried finding it online or in a newspaper article but couldnt locate anything with limited knowledge from afar!!

Confirmation that he was a Coastguard is very exciting, so now I know the death details are for the right person and that confirms the identity for his wife Margaret as well. I have received a transcribed copy of the original death record of Morgan Sweeney, Clifden. It states that he died on 1st April 1877. Was 75 years of age and married. His death was reported on 14th April 1877 by John Sweeney, Person Present at death, Clifden, no localised address. Morgan is recorded as "Retired Coast Guard Commissioned Boatman"

The copy is a Research Facility - Death Record - No 7825291

All registered births and marriages from 1864 are computerised. Death records are only partially, hence the transcription. Normally a photo copy of the original record is provided at a low fee.

In relation to "John Sweeney" there are records of "John, Michael and Owen" in the townland of Fahy, parish of Omey (Clifden) 1877 to 1879. Owen is described as a farmer.

The site I got the info from was the old LDS site or Mormon site.

Church records, see below............. but Dungloe only start from 1876. If you go on this registers site and Donegal, point to the various Parishes and you will see when the records start.
The reason being.......most Catholic Churches were being re-built around 1835, they were being allowed to be built then, again.

Thank you McCoy for the confirmation of Morgan's death information. Morgan had a son, John, who would have been 22 at the time of Morgan's death. I dont know of Michael or Owen. You could send the certificate via email, or you could post it, I dont know if IrelandXO encourage us to put our email or postal addresses online.
