Good Moring,
My name is Bob McGoldrick. I'm looking for any and all information concerning my great grandmother who goes by Margaret Jane Hines in our family folklore but who was baptized Joanna Hynes on December 10th, 1843. Her father was Thomas Hynes and her mother was Margaret Seymour Hynes. Margaret, Margaret Jane, Anna Hynes Cooke, David Cooke and their infant son came to the U.S. in 1864. They lived in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Margaret Jane married John Heavey in Jersey City in 1868.
If any of this even vaguelly sounds familiar it would be great to hear from you.
Fingers crossed,
Bob

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We have a parish liaison in Clontuskert parish. I will e-mail her to make sure she is aware of your message. You don't mention the religious denomination. If they were RC then here is a link to the online parish register for Clontuskert

Good Morning!
Thanks you Roger and Liam for your quick response. It's good to know there is someone out there.
I'll let you know when I hear from Clontuskert and in the mean time I'm off to find information about the death of Thomas Hynes.

Hello Bob,
I can't help you with the Hines connection. However, I have an interest in the Seymour part of your family.
My great grandmother was Laura Seymour. She came to the US in about 1885 as a small child. Her parents died on the ship and she arrived in New York an orphan. She was then placed in an orphanage and shipped out the the Midwest for adoption.
I have used FTDNA Family Finder to learn more. Recently, I have found four 4th to 5th cousins through FTDNA who are all from Galway. This pretty much indicates to me that her family must have been in County Galway before leaving to the US. These cousins have not been Seymours. However, the fact that they are concentrated in Galway gives me a place to focus my search.
I was wondering if you have taken the FTDNA Family Finder Test. If you have, perhaps I will look to see if you are among my results. I have hundreds of results.
Please let me know if you see any relevant facts here within my email. Maybe we have a Seymour connection.
Good luck in your search.

Google the Seymours of Somerset. There is a 31 page history of the family in Clontuskert near Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. They were there for over 300 years and were known to be very kind and well liked landowners. The reason this information still survives is because one of their ancestors from Australia visited and copied the papers as all our collective history was lost in the Four Courts fire in 1921, a tradegy. So very few records survived other than church records and batisimal records. It's a fascinating read and I hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone,
I've only recently traced my maternal great-great-grandmother Margaret K. Weber Murray Edwards née Cooke b 1865 as the daughter of David and Anna. Thank you for the new information about their parish and the Seymour maiden name.
If anyone is still following this old thread, I'd love to connect. I'm on 23andme, myheritage, and gedmatch or you can email me at jenn.strater@gmail.com.
