Hello,

I have been looking for records of my ancestors, the Hegarty family of Kilsallagh (parish Kilcroan).  Post-1864, they were married in the church at Ballymoe.  Pre-1864, I have been unable to find records of them in any of the Catholic parishes close by (Glinsk & Kilbegnet, Boyounagh & Templetogher, and Ballintober & Ballymoe).

Although the records for the Catholic parish of Ballintober & Ballymoe are said to go back to 1831, I see that all of the registers prior to 1863 are labeled "Ballinakill & Kilcrone (Ballintubber)".  Does this mean those records pertain only to the churches at Ballynakill (i.e., Glinsk, in the townland of Keelogesbeg) and Kilcroan (i.e., the ruined church in the townland of Curries)?  Do pre-1864 records from the church in Ballymoe no longer exist?

Thanks for any help.

Brian

We do not have somone local in that area. Hopefully the local church may be able to answer your questions. I did look at the new integrated RC parish data base on Find My Past and I found a record for a Thomas Hegarty in 1837. The transcription of the record shows Jacobi (James) Hegarty and Maria Henry. The register entry looks like Hussey. I know your are looking for Catherine Hussey not Mary but I thought I would mention this record.

  • Roger,

Thanks for your help (on both boards).  I have seen that record before (Thomas son of James), but I believe the mother's name is Kenny, not Henry or Hussey.  Difficult to read.
