We are currently searching for family connections based on a Civil Birth record for our great-grandfather, John Feeney, who was born on April 15, 1865.  His address was listed as Ballyedmond in the Parish of Dunmore/Glenamaddy.  His father, James Feeney, was a farmer and his mother was Bridget Lowry.

John Feeney came to the United States around 1883 and was married to Mary Higgins sometime around 1889.  He died in 1901. His death certificate indicates his birth in Ireland and confirms the names of his parents.  His wife, Mary Higgins, was also born in Ireland - her parents were listed as John Higgins and Mary Kilmartin on her death certificate

Any information on Feeney family history in this parish or any suggestions of where else we might search would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
Linda

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I found James and Bridget in the 1901 census. James died in 1908 and the 1911 census has Bridget with a son. See links below. The 1911 census indicates that Bridget had 12 children with 10 living in 1911. Bridget died in 1921. See death index records below. I looked at the 1855 Griffiths for Clonbern parish and there was a Michael Feeny living in Ballyedmond possibly the father of James. See link below. I was unable to locate the marriage record.

  • Hello, Anne - my apologies for the delay in my response!   My great-grandfather, John Feeney, had a cousin (I believe) named John Riley, who came to America sometime in the 1890's.  Wondering if you have any type of family tree listing, or if you might explain how the Rileys and Feeneys are related?  I will be traveling to Galway and visiting Dunmore this upcoming week and hope to discover more information about our family history.  Thank you very much!  Peace, Linda Feeney
