I am trying to trace any records of Daniel Galvin and/or his family. According to his RIC Service record he signed up in Dec 1866 age 21(?) and his address was Gort. He was recommended by Sub Inspector John Callaghan and his former occupation was a farmer. I am on Ancestry but have yet to find any birth records. Any help appreciated!

ColetteJG, Subscription site www.findmypast.ie has a record of a Sergeant Daniel Galvin who retired on May 16th 1895. His Service Number 32363. He joined the RIC in 1866 having been recommended by Sub Inspector Charleton. His native county was Galway East. He served in counties Leitrim, Fermanagh and Sligo. I will check for the name of his parents and get back to you. Regards,

Further to previous Post, Daniel Galvin is recorded in his service record of having married in 1874. The name of his wife is not recorded. Subscription site www.rootsireland.ie has a record of 5 children having been born to Daniel and his wife, Mary Flynn, in County Fermanagh. Their marriage record does not appear on the Civil or Church records on this site. The first child was named Daniel and was baptised in Irvinestown in May 1875. Based on the naming pattern, it is likely that the father of Sergeant Galvin was also called Daniel. There is a record of a Daniel Galvin, deceased in 1854, who had been leasing land in Ballinakill on the Eyrecourt Estate which was being sold in1855. Civil records in Ireland are from January 1st 1864, so it may be difficult to find any definite information. Regards,

I have nearly all this info but I was looking for any bricks that may break down this wall! For instance, any records of a Galvin family in this area at this time! So, the knowledge of a Daniel Galvin in Ballinakill is new info, thank you!! Where did you find it?

ColetteJG, Daniel Galvin is listed in Lot 14 - Sale of Eyrecourt Castle Estate in Jun 1854. It appears that he was leasing the land with a John Madden. The Civil parish is Ballynakill in the Barony of Longford. Catholic parish Ballinakill - Diocese of Clonfert. Baptisms are from 1839 to 1851 with a break until 1858. Nothing further found for Daniel Galvin. The wife of Daniel Galvin RIC is recorded in his service record as being a native of County Leitrim which apparently was his first posting. Nothing found in relation to their marriage. Regards,
