My Great-great grandfather, Patrick Loftus, was born in Kilchreest, Co. Galway, Ireland, circa 1814. He left for the United States in 1851 arriving first in New York and later at Boston, MA. His siblings included brothers Darby and Dennis.
At Danvers, MA, he married Jane Acton in 1855. They were married in the Catholic Church.
I have a copy of his US Naturalization papers which indicates that he was a shoemaker and about 42 years of age when he obtained citizenship in Boston on October 7, 1856.
Patrick owned a farm and died on December 4, 1893 and is buried in Danvers at Annunciation Cemetery.
I am planning a visit to Ireland in October of 2024 and hope to see the area where my ancestor lived.

What were the names of Patrick' s parents.
Subscription Site www.rootsireland.ie has a record of a Patrick Loftus born February 28th 1821 and baptised in the parish of Leitrim - Diocese of Clonfert - on March 3rd 1821. His parents: Edmund Loftus and Bridget Carr. Leitrim is in the Poor Law Union of Loughrea.
The name "Darby" is another name for "Dermot"

This might be a coincidence. On Ancestry, I found a Dennis Loftus born in Galway, living in Danvers, died 1885, age 76. He was a shoemaker as were his two sons. His death record identifies his parents as Dennis Loftus and Bridget.

Dennis was married in the civil parish Killeenadeema, Galway, Ireland. Adjoining parishes are Ardrahan, Ballynakill (Leitrim barony), Feakle (Clare), Kilchreest, Kilconickny, Killinan, Kilteskill, Kilthomas and Loughrea.
