My GGF was Thomas Craven - son of Timothy - from Ballynew, Kilcoona. It was also spelt Cravin and Creaven. Any connections?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Hopefully someone with Craven connections will see your message and post a comment.

I did check the 1901 and 1911 census for Ballynew and it appears there were two sisters to Thomas living in the townland. One was Margaret who married Patrick Higgins (see marriage record transcription below) and an umarried sister Mary.

  • Hi Michael and Roger---My family and I are traveling to Ireland tomorrow and will spend a day in the Donaghpatrick/Kilcoona area making family history inquiries.  We plan to stop first at Galway Family History West in Gaway city to seek any suggestions for our day of research.  We have numerous "leads" with our Higgins/McHugh research but don't want to make any assumptions.  Prior 1901/1911 census information we received is leading us to end our day in the Ballinduff area which I believe is only 2 miles from Ballynew.  We will include your information as may be helpful in making inquiries in the area.  The Creaven name is new to me---I am hoping it will be a valuable lead!  I will include Creaven in my on-line research on my return from Ireland.  I also am working with a genealogist in Portland Maine so will update him---so far we are having difficulty making solid family connections from the US back to Ireland but are not giving up!      Thanks!   Mary
