Looking for McGillicuddy information. Denis McGillicuddy son of Thade Corney McGillicuddy. Denis married Julia Connor and they had 9 children: Thade, Con, Ellen, John, Mary, Dennis, Patrick, Hannah and Margaret. Lived on a homested in Anabla, Kilcummin, Killarney. Patrick b. 1862 was my great -grandfather. Any help with birthdate of Denis and confirmation of name Thade Corney and wife would be greatly appreciated.

  • The spelling of the townland is Anablaha. In the 1901 census there were two McGillicuddy families in Anablaha. The first one is headed by Timothy http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kerry/Coom/Anablaha/1412823/ I'm wondering if he is the Thade that you mentioned. The house next door was headed by Julia, widowed wife of Denis. Living with her was her son Cor's? (assume this was Con?) and his wife. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kerry/Coom/Anablaha/1412823/The 1911 census shows Cornelius (maybe Cor's was an abbreviation for Cornelius) and his family. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Coom/Anablaha/285306/ Timothy and his wife lived next door.http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Coom/Anablaha/285307/ I presume Julia died between 1901 and 1911.. Two other sites should be checked: www.familysearch.org can provide birth, marriage and death index records and with this information you can write to the GRO for a copy of the record. www.groireland.ie  The other site is www.irishgenealogy.ie  which has Kerry church records going back to the early 19th century. • Thank you for your response, cleared up some questions. I am still trying to find the father of Denis McGillicuddy (my great great grandfather). Information passed down to me by my father from his cousin indicates that Denis was the son of "Thade Corney" and most likely born in the early 1800's.  I keep coming up with a Denis....son of John McGillicuddy in that time frame. I believe Denis must have had a father but I'm beginning to think "Thade Corney" is not right. Any further light you could shed on this?

  • Thade is the pet name for Timothy and Corney is the pet name for Cornelius.  So his christian name would have been Timothy Cornelius which makes it likely that  this Timothy was also a son of a Cornelius.

  • Lquinn,

This is a direct quote from a McGillicuddy cousin in Ireland:

"It seems we are related. I was born in Anabla, Kilcummin into a large family. It is also called Anablaha. The Anablagh you mention is the same place. It would echo its original gaelic name which means "Place of flowers". It is a townland in Kilcummin, Killarney, Co Kerry. Julia O'Connor was my great grandmother. I think she came from Inchigeela in Co Cork. My great grandfather was Denis McGillicuddy. Denis's father was Thade Corny Mcgillicuddy(Timothy Cornelius). John, Patrick, Joan (Hannah) & Margaret went to America. Their brother Con was my grandfather he married Maggie (Margaret) Lyne my grandmother. Thade (Timothy) married Mary Leary and also lived in Anabla. Ellen Married Denis O' Rourke and moved to Currans, Currow Co Kerry . We still have relatives there today. The Mcgillicuddy's are still living in Anabla to this day my brother's family and my first cousin and his family This is an old tradition where one of the children and their children's children live on the original land. This is of course happens only if they have not all emigrated.Their are also cousins and distant relatives living in many parts of Kilcummin. God bless, Mary Agnes "

Hopefully that helps; Denis's fathers name was not John, it was indeed Thade Corny Mcgillicuddy(Timothy Cornelius).
