I joined this group for Kilcommon because several of the baptism records for my grandfather's siblings list Kilcommon.

My great-great grandfather was Michael McGillicuddy.  He died pn April 23, 1900.  I'm looking for any information regarding his birth, baptism, his parents, his death.  He married Johanna (Joan) Dinneen on Feb. 5, 1851.

My great grandparents had 12 children.  I'm looking for any information on two of them who may have died in infancy--Dermot (b. 1873) and Bridget (b. 1869).

Any help or guidance is appreciated!

    Maura:

I checked www.irishgenealogy.ie and found the marriage occurred on February 5th 1861 not 1851. The marriage was in the Rathmore RC church which is close to Kilcummin parish. I could not find his baptismal record but Rathmore records started in 1837 and possibly he was born right before then. I also located his civil death index record from 1900. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. If you want instructions let me know.

  • Is it possible to figure out who my great-grandparents parents were from the marriage records?  That's where I get stumped.

I have Patrick McGillicuddy for my great-great grandfather and Margaret ? for my great-great grandmother.

My great grandmother was Johanna Dinneen and I've got my great-great grandfather as Dermot Dinneen and Mary Connor.

    Any help is appreciated.

Also, please let me know how to get copies of various records and the cost.

  • Maura:

Church marriage records normally did not show the names of the parents. When civil registration started for Catholic marriages in 1864, the government required the names of the fathers to be listed.

Below are the baptismal records for Bridget and Dermot from www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site. No death records available. I searched for civil death index records and did not find a record for Dermot. There was a record in the Killarney registration district for a Bridget McGillicuddy born 1870 and dies 1873. Not sure if this is your Bridget or another Bridget.

Copies of civil records cost around 4 euros. Go to the link below and print out the death form. Fill it out to the best of your ability and add the info from the index record: quarter/year of death, registration district and volume and page number. Make sure you annotate that you only want a copy of the record. Mail the request to the GRO address in Co. Roscommon ( the address will be provide when you print the form). You can ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back. I provide my credit card number and never had any problems.
