Hi there,
There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Lettermullin (Tuam)(Kilcummin). These date from 1853 for baptismal and marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland (NLI), Pos. 4218, or the Church of Latter day Saints, film 127921 item 11-13. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.
You should also check the 1901/1911 census records here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at. Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS).
- 1824-44: Tithe Book, Householder's Index FHLC # 919004
- 1821: Census. Parishes of Aran, Athenry, Kilcomeen, Kiltallagh, Killimore, Kilconickny, Kilreekill. National Archives of Ireland (NAI) CEN 1821/18-25, Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) film 597734.
There are also estate records available (Kilcummin). Landlord: Col. John Browne: NLI, Pos. 940. Account of the sales of the estates of Col. John Browne in Counties Mayo and Galway, compiled in 1778, giving names of major tenants and purchasers 1698-1704, and those occupying estates in 1778.
Hopefully someone in the Carraroe area will recognise these names and cal help shed some more light for you.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,
Sinead Cooney
Genealogist (Ireland XO)
