I'm trying to connect my 3rd GGF, John Donahoe, with  his parents. From his headstone I know he was born in 1825 in Killimor, Galway. He emigrated to the coal mining region of Tremont, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States and was an innkeeper there until he died on 12 Aug 1878. He applied for US citizenship on 2 Dec 1848.

What do you think my first steps should be in trying to research him and connect him to his parents? I know the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Killimor was erected in 1835, 10 years after he was born. What was the name of the previous church? Would St. Joseph's keep records from 1825?
