wolfe's/hornibrook of kilmeen/kilman and/or possibly skibbereen

I did a search for William Wolfe in Cork in Griffith?s Valuation. This was a property valuation  survey carried out in Ireland 1848-1864. Although it does not offer any genealogical information it can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. A lot of results came back, one of which was for Kilmeen, dated 1852. However, there is no way to prove if this is your William.

I also did a search for a Kilman in Cork. I could find no modern reference to it, however there is a Kilman townland listed in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are earlier land records dating from 1823-1838. Perhaps this townland no longer exists which is why you have been unable to find it. It is part of Kilmoe civil parish, so perhaps this could be another place for you to search if you have exhausted all avenues in Kilmeen parish?

A useful website when looking for Catholic records is the Irish Times, as they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Kilmoe is part of the Roman Catholic parish of Schull West:

Also, Irish Genealogy are currently uploading Irish church records to their websites free of charge. Only about 3 counties have been uploaded so far, but the Diocese of Cork and Ross in Co. Cork?s records have also been uploaded. Fortunately, Schull is part of this diocese!

I did a search of baptism records for William Wolfe in Schull. A number of results came back, some of which are possibilities in terms of date-however I could not find one where Thomas was listed as the father. You should double check to be sure I didn't miss it.

I also found a baptism for a Thomas Wolfe in 1801:

There is a recently published book on the Church of Ireland (Protestant) parish of Kilmeen, with both a William Wolfe and a Rebecca Hornibrook, both surnames at that time would probably be of that denomination. I am sure you will find your relatives there, lots more Wolfe's and Hornibrook's as well. Can give you an address to get one if you wish, they are ten euro plus postage and will also give you the history of the church. This book records all baptisms for Christ Church, Kilmeen from 1806-2010, burials from 1844-2009 and marriages from 1806-2008. Good luck with search. G.B.

The address you require to get the Christ Church, Kilmeen book is Mrs Betty Kingston, The Rock, Dunmanway, Co.Cork, Ireland. These books were launched two years ago and as they are  strictly in aid of church funds not for private gain,and not available in shops,and not being re-printed you would be wise to try for one as soon as possible, you will enjoy all your family names !!. Just ask for the "Christ Church, Kilmeen, 1811- 2011 book" and the lady will tell you how much postage (very little) depending on where you live. Do let me know if you can connect up the lists of births, marriages or deaths in it to your family, as the list is extensive.
