I have found a Thomas Huban (possibly my 3rd great grandfather) in the 1821 census living with his family in townland/street Clashagarry parish Kiltullagh county Galway barony Athenry.
I found a Thomas Hooban in the Tithe Applotment Books 1826 townland/street Caruknoll, parish Kiltullagh, county Galway.
On the National Archives website I could not find a townland named Clashagarry in Kiltullagh and I have done an internet search for both Clashagarry and Caruknoll and was not able to find any information.
My questions are: Are these locations the same? and Is it probable this is the same person?

The two townlands are Clashaganny and Carrowkeel. If you look closely at the original 1821 census you will see that the spelling is Clashagany but the transcriber took the N for two Rs. Same with the Tithe record. The spelling to me is Carakeel whcih translates to the current day Carrowkeel.
Carrowkeel is the townland immediately to the southwest of Clashaganny so I believe it is very likely that Thomas found a better opportunity in Carrowkeel and moved there sometime after 1821.

I have recorded the 1821 and 1827 records for Clashaganny, which is about 1 milk from home. In 1821 there is Thomas Huban in Clashaganney and in 1827 there is Thomas Hoban in Clashagena. In 1827 there is also Thomas Hooban in Carrakeel. I reckon that both Thomas Hoban and Thomas Hooban are the same. Clashaganney and Carrowkeel are adjacent townlands and the land he held could be in both. In 1821 he had 14 acres and there were 5 acres in each townland in 1827. There is also a map of Clashaganny from 1833 showing the names of all the landholders. This may be some help. Contact me at 5apples@eircom.net for further info.
