Hi, I am looking for more information on my great grandparents Patrick Naughton and Mary Rooney from Ballynanulty, near Attymon in Galway. Mary was an 81 yr old widow on the 1901 Census but I cannot find out anything about Partick except he appears in the GV for Ballynanulty. His father, Richard, appears in the Tithe Applotment Book for the area. Richard and his wife, Margaret Burke, are buried in the Killimordaly cemetery. Does anyone have any information on this family?
Any info would be most welcome. Thanks, Mary Naughton, Brisbane, Australia.

My ancestor, John Mannion, married Bridget Ward, in Athenry 1868 and they had 4 ? 5 children baptized in the Catholic church there- Ellen, b.1868 (my grandmother), Malachy b.1872 and twins, Honor and Maria Teresa b. 1874. ? another child Michael b.1877, who must have died before the family emigrated to Australia in 1883. On Michael 's birth, it says father's birthplace as Loughrea. John Mannion had previous marriages.1.Katherine Kennedy,5 children who emigrated to America and 2. Margaret Mogan, with whom he had 2 children. There were families of these names on GV renting land from Walter Lambert in Gloves South. John's parents were apparently Thomas Mannion and Mary Duffy. I know nothing of Bridget's parents. Sometimes her name was written as Howard, but on her marriage certificate it is Ward. Witnesses were Thomas Monahan and Bridget Burke. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response, Rosie. Yes, John and David Naughton are my cousins and I am in contact with them. What I was interested in was more information on our great grandfather, Patrick N married to Mary Rooney. I have done extensive research on the family but there are many gaps in the profile, mostly because the records no longer exist. I was hoping to be able to find out how many children they actually had, (I know of 6 but cannot follow all of them through - what happened to the others - if any existed??) how they survived the famine, what was life like in the mid 1800s in that area, etc ....... I was just hoping there might be a history of the area during that time.
Thanks again, Rosie.
Sincerely, Mary.
