Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located a transcription of the 1837 marriage record on Roots Ireland. The marriage was held in Cappataggle RC church presumably the parish for Honoria/Hannah. Cappataggle is to the northeast of Loughrea. See below.
The Cappataggle/Kilrickle baptismal records are not on Roots Ireland so you may want to review the parus register around 1812 for Hannah/Honoria's baptismal record. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0328
I will alert the Loughrea parish liaison about your visit in late May.

Roger, I have no words as to how to thank you for this information. I can't wait to share with my many Gilmore cousins that I have met through ancestry, com.
What does it mean when you said you would alert the parish liaison? My wife and I will arrive in Loughrea later in day on 5/31 and will be staying for 2 nights. We will be coming from the Cliffs of Moher. On 6/1, we plan on visiting Knock Shrine, Connemara, and Galway City. On 6/2, we leave to visit Ballygar where the Gilmores are from and then on to Dublin.
I need help figuring out what happened to Charles and am hoping the parish may be able to help me. My email is rtgilmore4520@gmail.com. I would love to be able to talk with someone from the parish liaison before we get to Loughrea. Our home phone is 315-487-2289. My wife and I live in Camillus, New York, USA.
I will search the regsiters site you gave me.
Thank you again.

Rick:
We have local people in a number of parishes but only a small percentage of all the parishes in Ireland. Possibly 10% but we do have one for Loughrea. Depending on their schedule/availability, parish liaisons help visitors and will do a meet and greet in the parish and help to pinpoint where a family is from. However, based on your note, it does not appear that you will spend a lot of time in Loughrea.
Have you been to Ireland before? Your schedule for 6/1 is very ambitious. My wife and I have been to Ireland nine times and always drive a rental. From experience, it always takes longer to get from one place to another. You can do Galway city and Connemara in one day from Loughrea but Knock is about an hour north and you won't be able to do all three in one day.
Are you staying at the Loughrea Hotel and Spa, Meadow Court or a B+B? We have stayed at the Meadow Court the last three trips. You can take the Motorway into Galway city or the L446 but you will need directions from your accommodation. We always park at the Cathedral parking lot (costs 4 euros) and walk into the heart of Galway city. If you are into churches then I recommend the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed and St. Nicholas.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Our_Lady_Assumed_into_Heaven…
Loughrea is a small town and has St. Brendan's Cathedral which is the home church for the Diocese of Clonfert. The church is about a block off the main street of Loughrea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Brendan's_Cathedral,_Loughrea
Regarding Charles Cooney, I don't think the church will have records for the 1840s. Roots Ireland has deaths for 1819-1826 but no other years and civil registration did not start until 1864. Here is a link to the parish register for the 1800s for the available records and you will note that the 1819-1826 death records are not included here http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0336
Let me know if you have more questions.

Roger, this will be our first time to Ireland. We have gone through CIE International to do a chauffeur driven tour. The company is the one that set the time schedule based on what we wanted to see. I kind of thought the itinerary for 6/1 was a lot but Galway City not all that critical for us to see. As regards driving ourselves, we have learned that Ireland does not rent cars to 70 and older people so we couldn't have driven if we wanted to, which we didn't want to do anyway. We will be staying 2 nights at the Loughrea Hotel and spa, 5/31 and 6/1, regular hotel. Seeing Knock is a must for my wife and Connemara for both of us. We may try Galway City 6/2 am before going to Ballygar and on top Dublin for our flight the next day to Scotland.
Found that not able to find info on Charles based on what info you gave me the other day. This is disappointing to me because I really wanted to find out what happened to him and why his widow and 4 children left Ireland for America. I will try the sites you just sent.
We are getting a tremendous snowstorm here in Central New York and have to watch 2 young granddaughters who just got dropped off.
Thank you again for your assistance. I would make the time to meet with this liaison at our hotel if that is possible-maybe first thing in morning or in the evening. Let me know.

This is a large townland containing two spots of bog, the remainder is arable. It has a large fir plantation, and two small ones, an old castle in ruins and one Danish Fort. Proprietor Mr. Blake of Dartfield. Rent per acre from £1 to £2. County Cess 1s. 5d. to 1s. 7d. per acre half yearly.Situation:
Lies in the southern part of the parish and is bounded by Kilboght, Emla, Dartfield, Coolinny parish of Kilreekil and Bally? and Kilmeen that of Kilmeen.Check out the 1840 OS Map - it shows up exactly where Drought was/is http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,567428,718792,9,7
In todays terms, head out of Loughrea on the old Dublin Road towards Ballinasloe (R446), and Drought is just the general land area before Dartfield Museum, with Kilboght above Drought.
On the 1840 OS Map, you will notice a tool where you can overlay todays google maps with the 1840 map.Kilbought, the townland where Charles Cooney worked as a labourer in 1821, is bordering onto Drought, (amongst others) http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/place/15722

Michelle has given you a lot of great information on your family. The area is north of Loughrea according to my maps.
I live near Baltimore and we received three inches plus sleet from the storm.
A chaffuered driven tour sounds like the way to go if you have not driven in Ireland. I heard the same thing about age 70 and not being able to drive in Ireland. I talked to my rental company since I will hit 70 eventually and they said the age 70 limitation is really up to the individual rental company and whether or not they want to provide insurance. My company does rent to over 70 drivers so for the foreseeable future I will be able to rent a car. Have a great trip! Don't worry about our parish liaison in Loughrea unless she contacts you.

Michelle and Roger, I can not begin to thnak you for all the information that you have given me and my larger Gilmore relatives about Charles and Honoria-she must have changed her name to Hannah at some point in time because that is how she was known in USA. Since you found Charles's burial date, is there any way to find in what cemetery he was buried? My wife and I will have our driver find Drought for us so I can see the general area where my ancestors came from. If yopu can find the cemetery, we would find and visit that also.
I am so glad that I took a chance to join Ireland Out There. I feel that I may have a pot of luck, as such, in my ancestry search.
Michelle, do you know of anyone who can help me find info on another set of great grandparents who, I believe, came from County Galway? I have been told that the Gilmores came from Ballygar, a place we plan to visit when in Ireland. There names are Edward Gilmore and his wife, Sarah Burke(maiden name) Gilmore. They would've been born in the early 1800s. My personal email is: rtgilmore4520@gmail.com
Thank you both again.

Rick, you are most welcome, glad to be of some help.
Cooney Graveyard location
Galway has some graveyard records online, but unfortunately it's a work in progress, and neither Cappataggle or Kilrickle have been covered yet http://gccapps.galwaycoco.ie/Graveyards/Search/ - typical! :-)So, right now, we only have the burial record to go on... this mentions 'Parish: Cappataggle' as oppose to 'Kilrickle', this might be your best lead.
"The Catholic parish of Cappatagle and Kilrickle includes the civil parishes of Killallaghtan and Kilreekill. There is a Catholic chapel in each parish, but both are united under one administrator. Kilrickle is a variant spelling of Kilreekill." [Source: familysearch.org]
We are talking rural Ireland, green fields, villages, and approx 15 minute drive from Loughrea town.
Maybe contact the Parish Priest, he might be of help...sometimes they know family stones in the graveyards, they will also have their own records that they can look up (but probably same now as what we have located for the burial, never know, might also have death record)
Parish Priest: Mgr. Edward Stankard, P.P.
Tel: (091) 843 017Assistant Priest: Fr Joseph Long
Tel: (091) 843 015[Source: as per http://www.clonfertdiocese.ie/cappatagle-and-kilrickle]
Keep in mind we are talking about 1846, at the start of the Great Famine. If family left, the gravestone, if there, might be unattended, and like a lot of stone gravings of that age, unreadable. Let's hope you get lucky though.
Re: Honoria and Hannah - Honoria/Hannah/Honora/Honor/Nora(h)/Nonie are all variants. Hannah would be a friendlier, pet form.
http://www.rootsireland.ie/ifhf/generic.php?filename=help/firstnames.tp… goes one step further
Honora: Honor, Honoria, Onny, Honorah, Hanara, Hanorah, Nora, Norah, Norrie, Norry, Nonie, HonGilmore - Ballygar
Unfortunately I do not have a direct contact in the Ballygar area.
Posting under areas in the Ballygar area might draw a response from others... e.g.
http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/galway/killaan
http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/galway/donaghpatrick
http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/galway/killeroran
http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/galway/mountbellewThat being said, if you would like to share more information re Edward and Sarah, I can see what I can find. I can post here, you can create a new post under one of the above mentioned links (and alert me to same), or you can email me at kiltullaghkillimordaly@gmail.com
If you have any other information to add, it might help with the search.
Did Edward and Sarah stay in the area or travel to USA?
1800s is quite a board bracket. I had a quick look, and there are quite a few Edward Gilmores in the area. If you have any dates, same would help narrow the search.
Do you know their children(s) names, and date of birth?thanks
