I am interested in John Toole (born approx. 1838 in Mayo) and Mary Anne O'Brien (born approx.1848 Dublin). They married in Loughrea and also lived the rest of their lives in Loughrea. Bride Street is where they seemed to live for many years. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query. Have you checked the marriage records (available at the General Register Office (GRO))?  You might also consider contacting the parish priest, if your search in the GRO records are unsuccessful. The parish priest might be able to give you the year they married (perhaps c.1868?), and then your search in the GRO will be more precise. I hope this is of some help.

In the meantime, keep checking the IRO website, as someone in the community might have information in time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there,

Not exactly sure what info you are searching out but in case you do not have it the 1901 Census mentions John and MA

Toole    John    63    Male    Head of Family    R C
    Toole    M A       52    Female    Wife                  R C
    Toole    Susanna M    24    Female    Daughter    R C
    Toole    Austin M    22    Male    Son    R C
    Toole    Lucy M    11    Female    Daughter    R C
    Kennedy    Margaret    20    Female    Servant    R C

but there are many other Tooles in Loughrea on this Census

    also on Bride Street is

Toole    Stephen    44    Male    Head of Family    Roman Catholic
Toole    Julia    42    Female    Wife    Roman Catholic
Toole    Mary F    17    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Toole    William    14    Male    Son    Roman Catholic
Toole    Kate    12    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Toole    Martin    10    Male    Son    Roman Catholic
Toole    Stephen    8    Male    Son    Roman Catholic
Toole    Annie    6    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Toole    Agnes    3    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic

    on the Main Street, Loughrea

Toole    Bernard    32    Male    Head of Family    Roman Catholic
Toole    Nora    32    Female    Wife    Roman Catholic
Toole    Marie    6    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Toole    Eileen    2    Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Toole    Emma        Female    Daughter    Roman Catholic
Kelleher    Mary    -    Female    Servant    Roman Catholic
Higgins    Julia    -    Female    Servant    Roman Catholic

just to follow up on this in 1911 John Toole is not on the Census for the house in Bride Street

Toole    Mary A    62    Female    Head of Family    R Catholic
Toole    Susanna    29    Female    Daughter    R Catholic
Toole    Susy    21    Female    Daughter    R Catholic
Toole    Austin    32    Male    Son    R Catholic
Nooman    Kate    20    Female    Servant    R Catholic

In the Carmelite Abbey Loughrea Graveyard

Bernard Toole 6/11/1913 Austin Toole 20/05/1958 and Mary Toole 2/2/1899.

Hope the above information helps a small bit.

Wishing you every success with your search
