my name is Rodney Cunningham, I reside in Sydney Australia and I'm after information on my Great Grandfather, Lawrence Cunningham.

I found out from my Grandfathers Birth Certificate that he came from Loughrea.

My Grandfather, John Cunningham was born in December 1884 and Lawrence's age was given as 28yrs.

I assume that he would have been born around 1856 and possible in Loughrea.

I would be grateful to hear from someone who may have information about the past relatives and the present so that I can exchange information on the family here in Australia.

    I checked the Roots Ireland indexes and found an 1857 baptismal record for a Laurence/Lawrence Cunningham in the Loughrea RC church. The parents were John and Mary.

    There are a number of other Cunningham baptismal records in Loughrea church where the parents were John and Mary. Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. You may want to search the Loughrea records at that time.

    I also checked the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there was a John Cunningham on Dunkellin St. in Loughrea Town.

    thank you for the information on John Cunningham and a possible place of residence.

    I had gotten that far back and found a Bridget Cunningham born 1852 but did not know if she is related to Lawrence,that is what I'm following up.

    I'll wait until the end of summer as you've suggested to dig a little deeper.

    I've other Great Grandparents I have to trace who came from Ireland and made Australia their home and raised famalies. This will keep me busy for some time.
