We are coming over to Ireland at the end of August. I have had no luck narrowing down where my dad's grandfather hailed from. As far as I know he was born in 1827 in the Lough Rea parish and emmigrated in 1850 at around the age of 23. He ended up in Vermillion County, Illinois. His parents may have been Edward Moran (also) and Bridget Coen, and remained in Ireland.
If anyone has any thoughts on this, let me know, and we can see if our DNA is a match.

I'm afraid I must tell you that a distant relation of mine, William Lally, murdered an Eleanor Coen in July 1821. I hope she wasn't a relation of yours. I attach a newspaper report of the time. I presume you have searched everywhere for references to Morans and Coens. You may not have come accross a fragment of the 1821 census. I had not, until Michelle at irelandxo found it for me. There are several Coen and Moran families in it, including a Bridget Coen, aged 16 in 1821, living in the townland of Carakeel, a bit north of Loughrea. Is this your lady? I think the best way of studying this census is to get a copy of the book, "Kiltullagh Killimordally - As the Centuries Passed", edited by Kieran Jordan whose email is 5apples@eircom.net. I believe copies of the actual pages are available from the National Archives in Dublin.
