The location is just past N18 between M6 and R339 on Clocmaol Rd. Just about midway between Galway and Athenry.  Thanks.

  • Can you give more information please on Catherine Conroy - place of birth ? parents ? siblings ?

If she wasborn in Ireland then she may be on the 1901 census : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/

    Where is Clocmaol Rd ?

    Thanks

  • Hi;   My grandmother, Catherine M. Conroy was born in 1888 and came to Canada in 1900 as an Indentured Servant, thus missing the 1901 census. She then moved to to Brignton, New York in 1910. DNA results place relatives east of Galway , just north of M6 past N18.and South of R339. On R339 there is a road going south called Clomaol. Several houses on that road. DNA ( by ancestry.com ) shows that I have two other relatives in that same spot. Not 100% sure on the last name but it looks like it might William & Julia Laird. Thanks for any help you can give.   Mike

Firstly was her name Conroy or Laird ? Did she have any siblings ? Do you know her parents names ?

You say that she was an indentured servant in 1900 - where were her parents ? It is most unusual and in fact the first that I have come across of an indentured servant at that time and especially one so young Were there any papers that she had when she served her time that wouldprovide clues as to where she was from?

Is there any record of her emigration to Canada?

You say that DNA results place her there - Ihave tried Conroys and Lairds in that area without success in the 1901 census How accurate are the DNA tests ? Could it be that a family member lives there now but that is not where she originated

IrelandXO is a volunteer organisation looking to connect people with their home areas and I would really like to connect you but at the moment based on what I have I cannot

However youmay be able to get assistance from posting on the Athenry, Lackagh or Claregalway noticeboards on here - I have tried getting Cloghmoyle (seems to be the way it is spelt) on the 1901 census without success : http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/asp/fullresult.asp?id=2902

Sorry that I could not be of more helpand best of luck in your search

  • Have you looked at Familysearch.org.

    Go to search section

Key in name   Catherine         Conroy    Years

    possibly 1887 to 1889

One result comes up for 1887 for Kate Conroy Portumna which would be quiet close to where you are saying.

However if you know her birth date that would help tie things down. Do you know how she arrived. Is there any clue on the ship record.

Did she marry. Is the name of her father on her marriage cert.

Is there any details on her death cert that might help identify her origin.
